Nightmare!!

I installed Windows 2000 and got all the drivers updated and the system stable and working. "Okay," I said, "now on to Windows 98 on the second partition."

Ugh. Three hours later I'm scouring the newsgroups and come upon the cold, hard truth: No dice, not on anything but the first and primary partition. Any other option wasn't considered. Hard-coded tunnel vision.

So I wipe the drive and start over with Windows 98 first. (And that's the short version on that).

Up next, Windows 2000 (again) and lastly the Linux partition.

Heh. Heh-heh.

Plus this and this means I'll be having a bit of fun shortly.

On a side note, the Beige Athlon is fully assembled and humming along. I'll look at the thermals and see if the Zalman CPU heatsink will work or not.

All the above, of course, means I'm utterly broke once again. Ah well, the cost of progress is... um, cost. Huh.

Slouching from Babylon
Hm. Seems my preferred truck manufacturer is migrating away from the darkside. Nice.
Oh, and Dell has made Ford the poster child company for doing away with legacy hardware. Welcome to the world guys! Apple did this four years ago.

I should investigate what will and will not boot off of my new 64MB Lexar JumpDrive.

Tangentially, I went ahead and ordered an Asus A7V600 motherboard. It actually POSTed with only the CPU in... but that's as far as I got time-wise.
