The Wonders of 1800's Technology and Deregulation

Got off the phone (the mobile phone, BTW) after 50 minutes to re-cancel my long distance from AT&T. 'Re-cancel' because I had originally cancelled my plan in Summer 2002, but somehow I started getting billed again this January. The salt in the wound of course is the four, 4, attempts to get me to sign up for a long distance, right after I had just cancelled my farking plan! Jebus!

"Sir, we've successfully removed the bowel obstruction."
"Thanks!"
"Would you like to hear about installing a bowel obstruction for a lower monthy rate of pain?"
"...um, no..."

If broadband in this county didn't suck, I'd jump on Voice over IP right quick, if I didn't already have a decent mobile phone plan.
