What with all the Mars Pr0n coming out, the discussion at work has leaned towards bandwidth. Currently data from Spirit is topping out at 128,000 bits per second via MGS and Odyssey. Naturally the question arises, "Gee, what would it take to up the upload rate? How about a dedicated comm satellite?"
Sure enough, NASA is on the job: the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
6 million bits per second using a 3 meter dish, nice.
Elsewhere, an article about Apple's internal IT setup. What a surprise! They eat their own dogfood and it just works! Shocking.
